We’ve got a 28-metre laser. We really like to mention it.

In our defence, it’s a very good laser. It cuts plate up to 40mm and full structural sections with holes and copes done in one pass, straight from your drawing. Your steel arrives ready to weld, not ready to fix.

Our laser bragging rights

  • Plate up to 40mm thick. Heavy is our favourite.

  • Beams cut, coped and holed in one pass. No drill line.

  • A 28-metre bed. Big orders run with barely a pause.

  • Cut straight from your CAD file, so parts fit first time.

What we cut

Plate and profile laser cutting on one machine

Send us a cutting list for plate, beams or both. It runs on the same laser, in the same workshop, under one quote.

Plate laser cutting

Mild steel plate up to 40mm, cut on a 3.2m × 28m bed. Several full-size plates fit on the bed at once, so big batches run with fewer stops, and single parts up to 28m long come out in one piece.

  • Base plates and cap plates
  • Gusset plates, stiffeners and cleats
  • Flanges, brackets and lifting lugs
  • Long flat strips and stringers
  • Custom shapes from your DXF

Structural profile laser cutting

H-beams, I-beams, channels and angles cut to length with every feature in one setup. No marking out, no drilling and no grinding to fit.

  • Cut to length, square or mitred
  • Copes and notches for beam-to-beam connections
  • Bolt holes and slotted holes
  • Weld-prep and access cut-outs
  • Part numbers marked on the steel

We don’t cut round, square or rectangular tube. Our laser is set up for flat plate and open structural sections.

How it works

From drawing to cut parts in four steps

We cut our own steel structures on this machine, so every part gets checked like we’re the ones bolting it up.

Send your drawing

Email your files (DXF or DWG for plate, IGS for profiles) with quantities, material and thickness, or use our quote form.

Get your quote

Priced on material, thickness, cutting time and quantity. Quotes within 24 hours.

We nest and cut

Parts are nested for the best material yield, then cut and checked against your drawing.

Collect or delivery

Collect from our Brits workshop or send your own courier. We also deliver, priced on distance, weight and size.

Questions we get asked

Laser cutting questions

What is the thickest steel you can laser cut?
Our 12kW fibre laser cuts mild steel up to 40mm thick, stainless steel and aluminium up to 30mm, and galvanised steel up to 25mm.
How big is your laser cutting bed?
The bed is 3.2 metres wide and 28 metres long, one of the largest in South Africa. It takes several full-size plates at once to keep big batches running, or single parts up to 28m long and 3.2m wide in one piece.
Can you laser cut H-beams, I-beams, channels and angles?
Yes. We cut structural profiles to length and add copes, notches, bolt holes, slots and cut-outs in the same setup. Standard sections run from 100 IPE up to 533 × 210 I-beams and 305 × 305 H-beams, angles from 25 × 25 to 200 × 200, and channels from 57 × 51 to 300 × 100. We also cut custom plate girders up to 1500 × 500mm in cross-section.
What files do you need for a quote?
For plate parts, a DXF or DWG file is best. For profiles, IGS or SolidWorks part files work best, and correctly exported Tekla data reads straight into our nesting software. We can convert most other CAD files. Send quantities, material and thickness with your files. If you only have a hand sketch or a sample part, our drawing office can draw it up for a drafting fee, depending on how complex the part is.
How long does a laser cutting job take?
Normal lead time is 5 to 7 working days, depending on quantity and tonnage. Quotes come back within 24 hours, and a rush service is available at an extra cost, depending on the job.
Do you deliver to Pretoria and Johannesburg?
Yes. We deliver from our Brits workshop across Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand, Johannesburg, Hartbeespoort, Rustenburg, Madibeng and the wider North West and Gauteng, or you can collect. Delivery is priced on distance, weight and size, and you’re welcome to send your own courier.

Send us your drawing. We’ll send you a price.

Email your DXF or DWG with quantities, material and thickness. Plate, beams or both, all on one quote.
